For the Idea You Can't Find Anywhere Else

Custom work and repairs. If it's leather, we can talk.

The Process

You Can See
the Hand In It.

Every cut, mark, stitch, and edge passes through the same set of hands. That's what makes a piece personal — and what makes it last.

The Details Matter

Edge Burnish

Every edge is slicked and sealed by hand, so it wears smooth instead of rough.

Tooling

Patterns are cut and stamped into the leather, one impression at a time.

Hardware

Solid buckles and rivets, chosen to outlast the strap they're set into.

Stitch Line

Saddle-stitched by hand — the seam built to hold for decades.

About Caleb

You Can Feel
When Something
Was Made
With Care.

Smokey Mountain Leatherworks started as a hobby and grew into something more personal — one piece at a time. What began at the bench became a way to make useful, lasting pieces for people who wanted something made for them, not pulled from inventory.

Every order starts with a real need: a gift, a tool, a fit, a memory, a sketch, or an idea that doesn't exist yet. That's the kind of work Caleb likes best.

"One customer. One project.
One piece at a time."

Why Have It Made

Because Off the Shelf
Was Never the Point.

01

It Fits Better

Made for the actual waist, wrist, dog, blade, or desk it's meant for — not an average of everyone.

02

It Means More

Initials, a name, a date, a memory, a reason. A piece can carry the story behind it.

03

It Lasts Longer

Built with intention and full-grain leather, not produced for volume. Made to be used hard.

04

It's Yours

There isn't another one just like it. There wasn't one before you asked for it, either.

Looking for a gift?

A custom belt for him. A named collar for the dog. A tooled bracelet, a rebuilt heirloom, a piece for the person who already has everything but this.

Make a Gift They'll Keep

Made to Be Worn

It Gets Better
With Age.

Good leather doesn't stay new. It softens, darkens, and takes on the shape of the life it's carried through. A little scarred, a little worn — and better for it. Buy something mass-made and it starts dying the day you get it. This is the opposite. It becomes yours.

"The first scratch isn't damage. It's the beginning of the patina."

Where It Begins

It Starts With
the Material.

Every finished piece begins as leather, an idea, and a reason to make it.

Commission

Let's Make Your Piece.

A photo, a sketch, a measurement, an old item to rebuild, or just an idea — that's enough to start.
Caleb will personally review and reach out to work through the details.

Before You Ask

Questions, Answered.

Everything you'd want to know before starting a piece. Anything not here — just call or text.

How much does a custom piece cost?

Every piece is quoted on its own, because every piece is different — the leather, hardware, tooling, size, and personalization all factor in. Tell Caleb what you have in mind and he'll give you an honest quote before any work begins. No obligation, no pressure.

How long does it take?

Most commissions are ready in a few weeks, depending on the piece and how booked the bench is. Caleb is currently taking new commissions — reach out and he'll give you a realistic timeline for yours before you commit to anything.

How do I start?

Tell Caleb your idea — a photo, a sketch, a measurement, an old piece to rebuild, or just a description of what you want. Use Start a Piece above, or simply call or text 828-405-8158. That's genuinely all it takes to get going.

Can you make something that's not in the gallery?

Yes — that's most of the work. The gallery is just past pieces. The majority of commissions are things people couldn't find anywhere else. If it's leather, Caleb can talk it through with you.

Where are you based? Do you serve my area?

Caleb works out of the Great Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina — serving Asheville, Waynesville, Sylva, Bryson City, Cherokee, Maggie Valley, Franklin, and the surrounding towns. Local pickup is available, and every piece ships nationwide, so wherever you are, he can make it for you.

Do you ship, or is it local pickup?

Both. Local pickup in the North Carolina mountains, or shipped straight to your door — wherever you are.

How do I make sure it comes out right?

Caleb works through the details with you before and during the build — measurements, leather, color, hardware, personalization — so the finished piece matches what you pictured. You're part of the process, not waiting in the dark.
